[Analysis] Zhongli's Buff

From Nable's Guides

EDIT: This analysis is for his first adjustment. If you wanna see how his new adjustment will perform, see the new analysis here

Disclaimer:

The calculations in this post are based on the official announcement regarding Zhongli's and Geo's resonance adjustment under beta test.

The changes might, or might not be implemented after the beta, so if you're reading this to consider pulling for Zhongli, please consider the things I mentioned above as well.

I am not in beta to ensure my after-buff calculations are accurate (I can assure you the other calculations are accurate as it has been personally tested), so feel free to correct me if you think I made a mistake!

Intro:

Just yesterday, we received the news about Zhongli's adjustment in beta test. Of course, I was excited to see him being buffed, but for some reason, I didn't feel like the damage addition was significant.

So, how would Zhongli perform with the new adjustments?

Let's take a look!

What's in this analysis?

- Comparison between Zhongli's current state VS after buff

- Comparison between Zhongli's HP build and attack build, without considering artifact set.

- Comparison between Zhongli's HP build and attack build, while considering artifact set.

The 3 builds that will be compared are damage builds:

(1) Burst support: HP% / Geo % / Crit Damage%

(2) Physical DPS: Atk% / Physical % / Crit Damage%

(3) Sub DPS: Atk% / Geo% / Crit Damage%

Assumptions:

The calculations below will follow the following assumptions:

1. Zhongli is lv90.

2. The enemy is a lv80 hilichurl.

3. The builds will have these substats:

• Burst support: 30% HP, 60% Crit Damage

• Physical DPS: 30% Attack, 60% Crit Damage

• Sub DPS: 30% Attack, 60% Crit Damage

All 3 builds will also be equipped with +20 flower and plume.

4. The weapon considered will be Lv90 Deathmatch, with the "+24% attack" passive active.

5. Talent lv6, C0.

6. Geo resonance effect is always active (Including after-buff effect).

7. The "total" damage calculation will be simulated in a 30-seconds field play, where he can do: 6 x normal attack, 2 x hold skill, 2 x burst, and the Stone Steele resonating 14x.

• It'll also be assumed that all of the hits crit.

P.S The decimals are hidden for a friendlier look.

Stats Overview:

To give you an idea on what I'm working with, I will show you the stat of all 3 builds.

Result:

First, I will calculate his basic attack on all 3 builds.

Next, I will calculate his skill damage, and his shield.

The table below shows you the comparison between his current-state and his after-buff.

Do note that I only take the crit hits on this table.

Here you can already see that the after-buff deals a lot more damage on his basic attack, and elemental skill. Although the burst did not change much.

Now, we will put the simulation into action:

Putting the total damage and shield amount into one table, we obtain the following comparison:

On the table above, you can see that build (3) has the highest damage, while build (1) has the highest shield (surprise surprise).

BUT, the difference is so small, I just have to calculate further.

Next, I will simulate the builds with artifact-set effect, where (1) and (3) will use 2-Archaic Petra and 2-Noblesse Oblige, while (2) will use 4-Retracting Bolide.

Again, I will put the numbers into simulation, and this is the result:

After putting them side by side, we can see:

This time, (3) falls hard behind (1) and (2), where the damage is only slightly better than (2), but the shield is far behind.

You can see that (2) beat (1) in damage by ~24k, but that number falls to ~5.8k in the after-buff calculation.

P.S. Huge thanks to Sintec for the correction and additio**

*onclusion:

This analysis shows that the adjustment issued by Mihoyo highly favour HP build and his geo damage, making him a far-more reliable damage dealer than he was before.

Considering the comparisons made earlier, it seems that (3) will be the worst build for him, with (1) and (2) being on-par based on the role you want for him.

Personal Opinion:

I honestly didn't expect the increase to be this big, so I'm definitely pleased with the result.

I've built him on physical DPS, and completely loving it.

But, if Mihoyo decides to apply the adjustments, I'll surely prepare HP% artifact for him, giving him the flexibility of 2 different roles.

I hope this gives you an idea of how Zhongli will perform if the adjustment is applied!

Edit: Thanks to Nemu for pointing this out!

My 5-hit after-buff calculation is potentially inaccurate.

Each hit does 15.6% x 4.

I multiply them for simplicity, but it did not cross my mind that *each* hit potentially benefits from the HP bonus.

This is how it will look like if I consider the HP bonus on his multi hit:

• Without artifact-set simulation:

• With artifact-set simulation:

P.S. I forgot to change the "Change%" in percent format. So 0.51 means 51%, and so on.
